Throwback: Build a Telescope

I recently unearthed some photos from my very first science project. My dad and I built a dobsonian mount telescope out of an old sono tube, a polished mirror and a microscope lens kit. Using this telescope I was able to see the craters on the moon, the planet mars, and the rings around Saturn.

Its a stationary telescope, so for objects that are really far away you only have a moment to view before the earth’s rotation takes them out of the viewfinder. The most important part about this project is that it made me curious about the world around me.
